Cruise transfer guide: Tilbury and Southampton

Embarkation day, luggage and timings when you travel from Essex or London.

Cruise day is different from a flight. You arrive with more luggage, fewer hard deadlines and, usually, more people. Getting it right means knowing your port, your check-in window and what you will carry. This guide covers the main points for the two ports most Essex and London passengers use.

Know your port and terminal

Tilbury, on the Thames in Essex, is the closest cruise port for many passengers in east London and Essex. Southampton is on the south coast and has several terminals, so check your documents for the exact one. Your cruise line will tell you which terminal and what time your check-in window opens. Give us those details when you book.

Check-in windows, not flight times

Cruise lines usually allocate a check-in time rather than expecting everyone at once. Arriving too early can mean waiting; arriving too late can mean missing the window. Plan to arrive during your allocated time, and let us build the journey backwards from that.

Luggage: plan for more than you think

  • Count every case, including hand luggage and bags bought on the trip.
  • Tell us if you are carrying mobility equipment, golf clubs or other bulky items.
  • Label every bag with your name, cabin number and ship, as the line requires.
  • Keep passports, tickets and medication in your hand luggage, not in the hold.

Choosing the right vehicle

A couple with two large cases will be fine in a chauffeur car. Four to six people with luggage will usually want a people carrier or a minibus. A large family party or a group travelling together may want a minibus or coach. See our guide to choosing a vehicle if you are unsure.

Returning home

Disembarkation can run late, and you will not always know when your group is called. Agree a flexible collection window with us rather than a fixed minute, and give us a contact number that works on land. If your ship arrives early or late, tell us as soon as you know.

Linking flights and cruises

Many passengers combine a flight with a cruise, for example flying out to join a ship abroad. Tell us if you need an airport transfer as well, and we can plan both. Our cruise port transfers page covers all the ports we serve, and our Thurrock and Grays page is useful if you are close to Tilbury.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Which cruise ports do you serve?

We run transfers to Tilbury, Southampton and Dover. Our cruise port transfers page has the details.

What time should I arrive at the terminal?

Follow the check-in time on your cruise documents. We plan the journey backwards from that time.

Can you collect us when the ship docks?

Yes. Tell us your ship, port and expected arrival time, and agree a flexible collection window as disembarkation can run late.

Do you take large amounts of luggage?

Yes, but tell us the number of bags so we choose a vehicle with enough room.

Can you combine a cruise transfer with an airport transfer?

Yes. Give us both journeys and we will plan them together.

Booking a cruise transfer?
